The School Council

The Ntare School Students' Council is a students' body that was formed in accordance with the Uganda National Students' Association (UNSA) statute of 16th December 1998 to cater for the needs of students. It runs with the guidance and advice of a patron who is supposed to carefully scrutinise and analyse the intentions of the Council before any matter if forwarded to school authorities for consideration.

It has a total of 16 Councilors, 7 of whom are House Councilors and 9 are Class Councilors, all democratically elected from their respective categories. It is from these councilors that an Executive Committee is formed comprising 6 people who include: the Chairman, who heads the Council, the Vice-Chairman, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Treasurer and the General Secretary.

The operation of the Students' Council is entirely independent of any other students' association in the school and it has following duties:

  • It plays a progressive role in the building of a free, peaceful and a prosperous school through fighting against oppression, injustice and exploitation of the students and to give support to all those desire freedom in Ntare and other schools as well.
  • It takes part in creating new desired policies for the school (on the students' side) in consultation with the School Administration, which are later forwarded to the Prefects for implementation. It encourages the maintenance of discipline, a sense of awareness in school matters, principled pride in the positive aspects of cultural heritage and formulates means by which they can advance this heritage.
  • The School Council promotes mutual relationships between the students and the School Administration and negotiates with the way forward on any matters concerning students generally, for instance, the students' welfare, academics, to mention, but afew.
  • The Council has the right to information in regard to the implementation of some of the Developmental Projects in the school, in accordance to the Uganda National Students Association Program of Action.
  • The Council is committed to the establishment and maintenance of solidarity with other student organisations through study conferences and workshops.
